Emergency and Disaster relief
hands is not primarily an emergency response agency. Our objectives as an organisation lie in long-term community support and development. Our ability to react to emergency situations is limited, instead we focus primarily on supporting the re-building and re-development of stricken communities.
Tsunami relief
Many people donated generously to the immediate needs of those impacted by the terrible catastrophe in December 2004. Our response was to visit specific villages and individual families, providing financial help for rebuilding homes and livelihoods. Currently hands is conducting research into locally led projects with whom we can partner long-term within a number of Thai and ethnic minority communities in tsunami-hit areas of south Thailand.
Flooding relief
Over the past 2 years severe flooding has affected several regions in northern Thailand. hands responded, and will continue to respond, by sending teams of local people to provide drinking water, food and clothing to victims of these destructive floods. The teams also provide encouragement and comfort to people who have lost family members in the disasters.
Our experience in micro-enterprise and community development activities provides an important contribution to the process of restoration within affected communities.
