Prevention

The prevention programme aims to inform and educate the parents or guardians of those at risk. This involves identifying areas of risk, liaising with local community leaders, raising awareness and establishing village 'neighbourhood watch' schemes.

Projects can range from visiting remote villages and farm communities to the distribution of locally devised information leaflets. When parents are aware the children are much less at risk. Education of children themselves also plays an important role in prevention. Included within this programme are measures which help us to identify specific children at risk.

For some the risk is low and they can be protected by support in the community via educational sponsorship, whilst for those at higher risk, especially orphans or those within vulnerable family units, the provision of a safe hostel with access to education is paramount.
